Q-Me Con report
Wow! I am finally getting caught up with all my emails after a great weekend of activities at the first annual Queer Media Conference (Q-Me Con) at Tribeca Cinemas in New York City, April 14-16.
First off, huge congratulations go to Jennifer and John of Punkmouse whose vision and dedication successfully conceived and produced this conference, the first of its kind. They brought together fantastic panelists from all areas of the indie film/tv world, and organized seamlessly a generous weekend of information and networking.
I spoke on a panel regarding ‘Alternative Routes’ for distribution and exhibition. IndieFlix filmmaker, CM Gross came to support IndieFlix. Thanks again to Cheryl a.k.a. CM, I am so happy you were able to take time to represent IndieFlix filmmakers at the conference and say hi in person. Check out CM’s shortsHERE.
I attended other panels on ‘DIY creation and distribution’ as well as ‘the power of networking & the art of building creative teams’. Both had a strong motivational tone with great quotes like ‘do the next right thing’ and ‘anything worth doing, is worth doing half-assed’. The idea being that you don’t have to wait for permission, you HAVE permission, and if you wait until everything is perfect, it may be too late.
All at Q-Me Con were very positive and ready to help. I was happy to bring IndieFlix into the mix. Community is so important for what we are doing. We all have stories to share and we are each other’s audience, mentors, critics, and resources.
And if that weren’t enough, the whole thing was infused with film screenings and performance art. The opening night party has an extra special place in my heart for being hosted by Seattle’s lovely Dina Martina. Thanks to Earl Dax for curating the performances and shorts.
Thanks to everyone for the positive feedback and reinforcement.
Best, Michele
